PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education
Our PSHE curriculum has been designed in accordance with the latest PSHE guidance from the National Curriculum. The objectives for Key Stage 2 are taught across a two-year cycle, enabling all aspects to be covered twice before children leave at the end of year 6.
The curriculum is divided into three key concepts and taught twice weekly:
Health and Wellbeing
Relationships
Living in the wider world
The key concepts are then further broken down into themes, and each theme is taught across a term. To ensure the updated statutory elements of RSE are taught thoroughly, we follow the Christopher Winters scheme of work, which is taught in all year groups in the summer term.
As part of the PHSE curriculum, a variety of visitors from the local community are invited into school to meet with the children and provide first hand experiences for them. A wide range of PSHE objectives are also met outside of the PSHE curriculum, through assemblies, class discussions and school events. The school meets together weekly to celebrate achievements and discuss current issues in an assembly. We support a wide range of charities throughout the school year as part of our School Council programme and elements of our PHSE curriculum are covered through supporting the community.
Evidence of PSHE teaching and learning is done in a joint RE and PSHE book. This incorporates photos, activities and examples of work completed. This table shows where the PSHE curriculum is taught across the year.

RSE |
As well as these planned sessions, teachers have the opportunity, once a week, to teach PSHE to suit the needs of their class. For example, teachers this year have taught lessons on how messages you sent online can be saved forever and the impact this has, appropriate and inappropriate behaviours and how to manage our emotions.
Feedback from a pupil voice in July 2024 includes children stating, “We learn about new things, so you don’t feel ashamed when it happens or if it happens to you” and “We learn how to communicate, respect others and if a relationship is healthy and unhealthy.”
RSE
Our school is committed to providing effective RSE for all pupils. RSE teaching contributes to our statutory duty to safeguard children and prepare them for the responsibilities and experiences of adult life. RSE is taught in an age-appropriate manner throughout the school.
